Below is my entry into the UN 2011 Citizen Ambassador Video Contest. The criteria for the clip is that it has to be at most 30 seconds long. The issue I chose, naturally, is female-development-centric: Girl Education.

Incest is still swept under the carpet in most parts of the world, from the poorest countries to the most developed. The majority of laws that exist against it, are largely vague & ineffective to decisively tackle the crisis. In this world, it’s a privilege for a girl to grow up in peace & security throughout her childhood & adolescence, contrary to popular perception. What happens behind closed doors in communities/societies is undocumented, but grave child right atrocities are carried out & victimized girls are typically threatened to remain quiet, despite mentally breaking down underneath it all.
Imagine being raped secretly by someone you know, and then being threatened with violence or even death to refrain from seeking any authority to save you. Now imagine that regularly happening to you, for at least decade! Could you live with yourself?
The idea behind the clip above is simple: To show a snapshot of incest & pause it long enough to make an impression on you. The text may not stay in your mind, but the image sits in your psyche. Hopefully, it will disturb you enough to take action against incest, today! Because you’ll be screaming for raped, little girls who have become vocally maimed. You’ll be calling for all authorities available to rush to their aid. You’ll be the hope they would have already lost: The hope in the belief in humanity!
